The Fault In Our Stars Movie

The fault in our stars film debut at no 1, being released, June 6, 2014. I loved the movie, not as much as I loved the book but it was close. There were some changes between the book and the film; such as the Oranjee scene. In the book Hazel and Augustus dine outside; in the film Hazel and Augustus dine inside. So why the subtle change? According to Molly Hughes the production designer for the film told HuffPost Entertainment. "We decided to build the Oranjee scene as an interior because when I went to scout Amsterdam for exterior locations, we realized that it would be freezingand dark and likely raining in October, which doesn’t bode well for a romantic dinner. We therefore built the interior in Pittsburgh,” "I hope that the fact that Gus and Hazel were surrounded by fantastical trees and candles and lights helped create an equally romantic setting!"Also in the book Hazel has a girl friend, Kaitlyn, however she apparently did not make the cut for the movie. For more change between the book and film check out; http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/06/the-fault-in-our-stars-book-movie_n_5433348.html.Even with all the changes I still fell in love with Hazel and Augustus. At first I did not agree with Shailene Woodley being casted as Hazel. I watched her on secret life of an American teenager and did not think she was a great actress nor a good choice. As for Ansel Elgort the actor who played Gus, I did not recognize him. So after researching Ansel Elgort I found out that he was actually in Divergent, another film Shailene Woodley stared in. So who was Ansel Elgort in divergent? He was actually her brother: which just made the whole falling in love with each other a little awkward. So try to take the two films separately. That being said i thought Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort were good picks for Hazel and Augustus.

Fun Fact

The fault in our stars was inspired and dedicated to Esther Grace Earl. Esther died in 2010, she was only 16. Like Hazel in the fault in our stars she too had thyroid cancer and wore a nasal cannula. However the similarities stop there between Hazel and Esther. This star won’t go out is a collection of journals, fiction, letters and sketches that Esther did. This Star won’t go out was recently published January 28, 2014.
